Where can I learn about the iPad?
You can learn about the iPad directly from Apple -http://www.apple.com/iPad/features/

Here is a CNN article talking about iPads in education http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/23/tech/innovation/iPad-solid-education-tool/

Why were iPads selected?

Will students be able to take iPads home?

No, the current plan for the remainder of the 14-15 school year is to have the iPads stay at the school.  The reasoning for this decision is to aid in the transition period for students and teachers, and to assure that the iPads will be available for students in the classroom.

Will there be any training for students on how to use the iPad?
Yes, in addition to the classroom teacher we will have a technology integration specialist from the CNYRIC in district to help the students learn how to use the iPads in an educational manner.  On days that the specialist is in district, he/she will be available to the students during study halls and lunches at their convenience.

Will the school do any training for parents about the iPad?
Yes, parents will have access to various online guides from the district.  The district will also hold parent training sessions for the iPad to give them an introduction to the device and answer any questions they have regarding the 1-1 implementation (dates to follow).

Will the students need an iTunes account?
Yes, students will need an iTunes account (not tied to a credit card) that they will use throughout their educational career in Chittenango.  Apple currently has a minimum age of 13 for creating an iTunes account, but that minimum age does not apple when the account is created within an educational institution.  Students and parents will have access to help when creating an account.

Can students install their own apps?
Yes, students will be able to install any free apps that they need, but paid apps will need to be installed by district personnel.

My student already has an iPad. Will s/he be able to use that one?

Will the Internet be filtered on the student iPads?

Yes, the students will be on the secure wireless network at school which will be filtered to the same levels as the district computers.

What happens if an iPad gets broken, lost or stolen?
All iPads are owned and operated by the district.  All investigation into any incidents will follow normal district protocol for technology.
