Dear Parents and Guardians –

As an update, we would like to advise that as of 11:15 a.m. the Fire Department has concluded their work and left the High School Campus.  The situation occurred due to a temporary heat vent overheating, causing a smoldering in the combustible material around the vent thus producing smoke.  This smoldering of material occurred in the construction zone of the building, isolated away from students.  I would like reiterate that our staff acted out of an abundance of caution to alert first responders just as they have been trained to do.  No fire alarms were tripped and the situation is currently resolved.

Please be assured the District has requested a complete review by project architects and construction managers on the use of temporary heating units and vents.

We consistently report that our relationship with local first responders is strong, this situation is case in point.  We are grateful for their support and service.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact school administration.

Thank you.

Dear Parents and Guardians –

We would like to make you aware of a situation at Chittenango High School where local Fire Departments have been called as a precaution.  First and foremost, there is no emergency and students/staff are not in any danger. Due to a temporary heater causing smoke in the construction zone of the building, isolated away from students, our staff followed safety plan protocols and acted out of an abundance of caution to alert first responders.  No fire alarms have been tripped and the smoke is currently dissipated.  Fire Department officials have advised that evacuation is not necessary as there is no emergency or fire.  If status changes at any time, we will communicate with you promptly.

We would like to thank our local first responders for their selfless volunteerism and support.  Additionally, our students and staff at Chittenango High School, including maintenance and the School Resource Officer, acted just as they have been trained to do so.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact school administration.
