District Overview

Below is a brief overview of our School District, provided to offer you more information on the community, our management, the buildings, and our enriched environment in Chittenango.

Our District is situated 15 miles east of Syracuse, New York, and occupies approximately 80 square miles primarily within the Town of Sullivan, Madison County. The school community has approximately 15,000 residents who highly value the education of their approximately 1,925 students. We are one of twenty-three (23) district members of the Onondaga-Cortland-Madison BOCES. We compete interscholastically in the Onondaga High School League.  Our tax base is residential/agricultural (95%) and commercial/business (5%).

The District's management team consists of a nine (9) member Board of Education, a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction, Assistant Superintendent for Business, Director of Special Education/PPS, five (5) Principals, 1 Assistant Principal, and an Athletic Director.  Site-based teams and PTAs in each of the four buildings and district-wide Athletic and Music Booster Clubs work collectively to create a positive learning environment and enhance student achievement and success.

Bolivar Road Elementary School educates grades K-4 and serves nearly 453 students. Bridgeport Elementary School, located in Bridgeport, welcomes approximately 225 students in grades K-4.

Chittenango's elementary program is strongly committed to child-centered education, heterogeneous grouping, integrated language arts, constructivist mathematics and multi-disciplinary instruction. Aggressive mainstreaming of special education students, partnerships with community resources, and team and collaborative planning for instruction are also vital elements of the elementary program. Art, music, library, and physical education are integral aspects of the program.  Elementary class size averages approximately 21.

Chittenango Middle School educates nearly 629 students in grades 5-8. Teaming, heterogeneous grouping, and curriculum integration are indicative of the strength of conviction to the middle school concept. The core academic program is enhanced by a strong emphasis on integrated language arts, multi-disciplinary teaching, networked classrooms, several computer labs, acceleration opportunities in mathematics, science, art, and foreign languages, comprehensive art and music programs, and a full range of modified sports teams for seventh and eighth grade students.

Chittenango High School serves approximately 611 students in grades 9-12.  There are currently advanced and regents sections for most academic areas. AP courses are offered in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies.  Articulation agreements with SUNY ESF in science and Tompkins County Community College in foreign language provide additional college credit opportunities. Strong programs in the visual and performing arts are highly subscribed to by our students. We are one of the few area schools providing a 4th-12th grade String music program. A full range of Junior Varsity and Varsity sports teams are available for male and female athletes.
