First semester 2014-2015 2014-2015 Studio in Art students created these paratroopers.  They used plaster of Paris, fabric and metallic paint for the parachute and various found objects for the humanoid - Barbie doll parts, wood, sponges, cinnamon sticks, rulers and other miscellaneous items.

Art club created a Chistmas tree, which was donated to the Everson Museum for the annual Festval of Trees.  On Tuesday, December 10th, 2013, we went on a field trip to see the tree.

Fall 2013 Art-8 students created these horse paintings as part of the SLO testing.  They are based on the work of Jaune Quick to See Smith - a mixed media piece including magazine collage, acrylic paint and encaustic.

2013-2014 Studio in Art students created posters for the Lions Club peace poster contest.  This year's theme was "Our World, Our Future."

The 2014 Lions Club Peace Posters were due on Friday, November 1st,  judged on Monday, November 4th with the art reception on Wednesday, November 6th.  The Lions Club awarded prizes - First place and $100 went to Victoria K.  Second place and $50 went to Kaylee H.  Third place and $25 went to Kiera B.  Seven others were voted honorable mentions.  Victoria's poster won at the Lions Club regional meeting as well.  Every student received a participation certificate at the reception.  Congratulations on a job well done!

The Fall 2013 Art-8 students exhibited artwork at the Sullivan Library during the month of December 2013.  There was an artist reception on Sunday, December 8th in the Community Room of the library.

Students in Fall 2013 Art-8 created sculptures using a styrofoam head form.  The lesson was called Beauty & the Beast.  They chose their own assessment based on details, pinciples of art and the degree of beautiful and ugly imagery they chose creating emotion in their work of art.  They used plaster of Paris over a cardboard and aluminum foil armature then added Celluclay, tissue paper and unique details.

Here are the 2013-2014 Studio in Art still life paintings!

These horse paintings by 2014 second semester Art-8 students were based on the work of surrealist artist Vasko Taskovski.  Students learned to draw horses then placed them into a surrealistic composition and painted with acrylics!

These 2014 second semester Art-8 students used tissue paper collage for the texture in these horse compositions.

Students used slab and sculpture to create these "frozen" faces, loosely based on Medusa of Greek mythology.  They glow in the dark!

Children's book illustrator and author Jason Chin visited the CMS library on May 14. 2014 to speak to 8th grade Studio in Art students about his work including his latest work entitled Gravity.

2013 Studio in Art students created these celebrity portraits from photographs found on the internet.  Students endured thousands of "Get your darks dark!" but the results are spectacular.  See if you can guess who they are!

2013 Studio in Art students created these vessels using animals of the Chinese zodiac.  First they made a pinch pot using the technique they used in 1st grade.  They built the shape of the vessel by adding coils then used sculpture techniques to add the animal.  Vessels were painted with fluorescent acrylics.

Spring 2013 Art-8 students used oil pastel to create their horse art.  Like other students, they used a reference to draw a horse.  They cut out a stencil from the drawing to make an interesting composition then used oil pastels and blended colors.

2013 Studio in Art students created these mixed media pieces - called barn landscape with cows.  They used internet photos of barns and had to add a cow from the reference photos provided.  Then we broke up the space into six sections and used a different medium in each.  It was a fun way to revisit favorites (colored pencil) and try out new techniques (India ink).

2013 Art-8 students created these barn drawings based on the work of American artist Wolf Kahn.  They used black paint to outline the drawing and oil pastels for color.

Spring 2012 Art-8 students created two sculptures.  The first was in clay.  Students used Hokusai prints to depict Japanese landscapes then painted them with fluorescents.  The second was a reductive sculpture of a bird.  They achieved amazing results with both sculptural techniques!

Spring 2013 Art-8 students used India Ink to decorate horses in a Persian Pottery pattern-inspired composition.  This was part of the SLO testing.

Four artists held exhibitions in the CMS library during the 2012-2013 school year.  Ms. Tashkovski exhibited encaustic paintings of horses, cows and crowns.  Tom Huff curated an exhibit of Native American art from his personal collection.  Michael Cody exhibited paintings of Green Lakes State Park.  And Kendra Stenger showed us what it is like to be a college student studying art with her massive oil paintings and charcoal drawings plus prints and photographs.

Fall 2012 Art-8 students created these acrylic and encaustic paintings based on Ms. Tashkovski's own artwork, which had been displayed in the school library.  It was the basis for the first SLO exams.

2012-2013 Studio in Art students worked closely with the Chittenango Lions club who offered a prize for the best Peace Poster.  Students created these posters in colored pencil.  After they were judged, a reception took place on November 8, 2012.  An exhibit followed during the month of December at the Sullivan Library.

Fall 2012 Art-8 students paid homage to American Artist Sandy Skoglund with these photo installations.  Students created rat sculptures and contributed them to each individual photograph.

Spring 2012 Art-8 students created these still life drawings with the help of Syracuse University student teacher Allison Cobb.  They applied tissue paper to the surface then added Sharpie marker.

Spring 2012 Art-8 students learned to produce subtractive or reductive sculptures.  They widdled with clay tools on foam blocks to carve these birds.

2011-2012 Art-8 students learned about American Artist George Rodrigue.  These "blue dog" pictures had the added element of some type of clothing.  Students used oil pastel and black paint on black paper.

2011-2012 Art-8 students in two classes used acylic paint on canvas to create paintings based on the work of American Artist George Rodrigue.  They used references from other famous works of art to add to the background of the famous "blue dog".

Regional contemporary artists have been exhibiting their artwork in the Chittenango Middle School Library for several years.  They give a presentation to students during tenth period on a Tuesday to coincide with Art Club meetings.

Three 2011-2012 Studio in Art students donated artwork to an event called Pawcasso to benefit animals.  Their work was sold at a silent auction where several thousand dollars was raised.

Students in 2011-2012 Studio in Art created these mixed media sculptures.  They are Frida Kahlo dolls based on the painting The Two Fridas.  The heads are made of clay and a soda cup from Wendy's completes the armature.  Thank you goes out to Mrs. Perriello for providing the fabric.

Nicolle  A.and her sister Rachel created these digital drawings for the Doodle for Google contest.  Their work was also selected to compete at the Scholastic Art Awards competition!

Studio in Art students provide the drawings for the Oztravaganza coloring contest.  The Oz committee selects six or secen drawings.  Elementary school children color them and the winners are displayed in the windows of businesses in town.
Students in Art-8 created these Happy Faces.  They were displayed at the Gollisano Children's Hospital January-March 2011.  Students were encouraged to sell the art and four students became professional artists!

Ms. Tashkovski runs a Harry Potter club.  We play Scene It for prizes and talk about everything from wizarding to Quidditch to Harry Potter World at Universal studios.

Students in Spring 2012 ans Spring 2013 Art-8 created these Greek Urns.  They used an armature of assorted plastic cups, masking tape and aluminum foil, as well as two bowl molds.  The result was plastered and painted with Greek patterns!

2011 Art-8 students began the year with an Aboriginal Art theme - of lizards.  They either drew them or made them out of clay.  Students added patterns after viewing images from Aboriginal culture.
Art was displayed at the Sullivan Library.

2009-2010 Studio in Art students finished a unit on the
self-portrait.They used colored pencil.They were inspired by the paintings of Gustav Klimt.

Each year four art exhibitions take place in the Chittenango Middle School Library.  For the 2010-2011 school year the artists were Karen Tashkovski, Lorraine Savidge, Michael Moody, and Sheri D'Elia.  For the 2009-2010 school year the
following art shows were planned:  CHS Senior Selection, Laura Reeder,Barbara Conte Gaugel (February),Carol Boyer (April)

Ms. Tashkovski sponsored a Twilight Club.  Students made dream catchers, wrote fan letters and shared their love of the books and movies.
