6th Grade Earns Third Place!

Our school's 6th Grade First in Math Team recently achieved an outstanding accomplishment, earning 3rd place in New York State at the First in Math State Competition held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany.

The team, consisting of Brayden Mento, Bennett Cary, and Cody Morkel, earned the opportunity to compete at the state level after winning the Virtual Regional Competition earlier this year. Their regional championship victory not only secured their place in the state tournament but also earned $1,000 for Chittenango Middle School, a testament to their hard work, mathematical skill, and dedication.

At the state competition, regional champions from across New York gathered to compete against one another in a series of challenging rounds. Brayden, Bennett, and Cody rose to the occasion, scoring an impressive 480 points out of a possible 495 points during the first three rounds of competition. Their strong performance qualified them for the prestigious final presentation round, where the top teams showcased their problem-solving abilities and mathematical reasoning.

After a full day of intense competition, our Bears proudly finished in 3rd place statewide, an extraordinary achievement that reflects countless hours of practice, teamwork, and perseverance. The success of this team is a wonderful example of what students can accomplish when they challenge themselves and work together toward a common goal. Their achievement has brought great pride to our school community and serves as an inspiration to future First in Math participants.

Congratulations to Brayden, Bennett, and Cody on their remarkable accomplishment. We are incredibly proud of your hard work and dedication. Way to go, Bears!
